PROFESSIONAL AND ETHICAL STANDARDS

Our commitment

AMBIT Youth Ltd is committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and ethical youth work. These Professional and Ethical Standards apply to all employees, contractors, trustees, and volunteers working with or on behalf of AMBIT Youth Ltd.

They set out the behaviours and values we expect in order to protect children and young people, maintain public trust, and ensure professionalism in everything we do.

Standards and frameworks we follow

We align our practice with recognised national standards, including:

  • National Youth Agency (NYA) National Occupational Standards for Youth Work

  • Working towards the NYA Quality Mark for Youth Work

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance, where applicable to our work and partnerships

  • Relevant professional and ethical practice standards, adapted appropriately for a youth and community context

Safeguarding, inclusion, and the wellbeing of children and young people sit at the heart of all our professional standards.

Our five core ethical standards

All staff, contractors, and volunteers must be able to demonstrate that they:

  1. Act with integrity and authenticity

  2. Provide a high standard of service

  3. Act in a way that promotes trust

  4. Treat others with respect

  5. Take responsibility

1. Act with integrity and authenticity

This means being honest, open, and trustworthy in all that we do, particularly when working with children, young people, families, and partners.

This includes:

  • Being truthful and reliable in all professional dealings

  • Working transparently and sharing information appropriately and safely

  • Respecting confidentiality and data protection at all times

  • Never exploiting or taking advantage of a child, young person, family member, colleague, or partner

  • Declaring and managing conflicts of interest openly

  • Not offering or accepting gifts or hospitality that could compromise professional judgement

  • Always acting in the best interests of children and young people

2. Provide a high standard of service

We aim to deliver safe, inclusive, and high-quality services that meet the needs of children, young people, and the communities we serve.

This includes:

  • Being clear about roles, responsibilities, and expectations

  • Working within your level of training and competence

  • Seeking advice, supervision, or specialist support when needed

  • Communicating clearly and accessibly with children, young people, parents, carers, and partners

  • Using feedback to improve services

  • Supporting a culture where safeguarding and quality are everyone’s responsibility

3. Act in a way that promotes trust

Everyone representing AMBIT Youth Ltd is expected to act in a way that builds confidence and trust in our organisation and in youth work as a profession.

This includes:

  • Acting professionally at work and in situations where you are representing AMBIT Youth

  • Understanding that behaviour outside of work can impact trust and reputation

  • Being mindful of how actions affect children, young people, colleagues, and the wider community

  • Doing what you say you will do and being reliable

  • Following both the spirit and the letter of our policies and procedures

4. Treat others with respect

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Everyone should be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.

This includes:

  • Being polite, considerate, and supportive in all interactions

  • Never discriminating on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion or belief, disability, or background

  • Being aware of cultural differences and individual needs

  • Creating safe and welcoming environments for all children and young people

5. Take responsibility

We expect all staff, contractors, and volunteers to be accountable for their actions and decisions.

This includes:

  • Acting with care, skill, and diligence

  • Following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns promptly

  • Responding to complaints or concerns professionally and constructively

  • Learning from mistakes and taking steps to improve practice

  • Challenging poor practice and raising concerns where something does not feel right
